How should you maintain your winter jacket?

Although wool is water-resistant, this does not mean that you can wash your wool jacket in the washing machine. If wool gets soaked, it will most likely reduce the good quality of the wool. If you are unlucky enough that your woolen jacket gets soaked, you should lay it flat on a table to dry and make sure that there are no creases, as these can be difficult to get rid of. Fortunately, you can prevent this by washing your down jacket, and if you do it correctly and regularly, you can maintain the good quality of your down jacket for many years to come.
As with wool, down is a natural product that requires special handling and care when washing. Are you unlucky that the down in your winter jacket gets wet/damp in connection with use, e.g. rain, snow or sweat, it is important that you dry them again quickly and thoroughly. Fortunately, the down in the vast majority of our winter jackets is protected by a water-repellent outer material, which can keep the down dry for a while in the event of rain or snow. In general, down products should be washed with a mild detergent specifically intended for down, which should ensure that the down is not unnecessarily degreased by the detergent. For this reason, we recommend that you do not wash your down jacket with normal detergent, as it contains harmful enzymes and additives, which are not good for the insulating properties of the down. In addition, it is important that you avoid using bleach or fabric softener, which will also be harmful to the down in your winter jacket. We recommend that you wash your down jacket regularly, as this will maintain the insulation properties of the down and extend its lifespan. After wearing your winter jacket daily, you should wash it after one to two months.
There are a few different methods you can use to wash your down jacket. The best solution is hand washing, because it is the most gentle way to wash, and it protects the outer material of your winter jacket and removes any difficult stains. Unfortunately, it is also the most difficult and time-consuming method, but you ensure that your winter jacket gets good treatment. When you need to wash, you must use lukewarm water (max 30 degrees), after which you must carefully massage the down detergent into the outer material without wringing. The dirt will pull out of the fluff that the detergent penetrates. You must repeat the process until the down no longer emits dirt. Then rinse the winter jacket in clean, lukewarm water (max 30 degrees) until all the detergent is out. It is important that you make sure that all the detergent is out so that it does not leave stains.
If you choose to wash your down jacket in a washing machine, we recommend that you follow the washing instructions, which can be found on the inside of your jacket. Use a gentle program and rinse your down jacket an extra time after washing to ensure that all the detergent has been rinsed out - remember to spin. When you need to dry your down jacket, it is easiest and fastest to use a tumble dryer. It is best to do this immediately after washing, as water in the down can create stubborn lumps if it is allowed to remain. We recommend tossing a few tennis balls in the dryer with the winter jacket to prevent the down from clumping together. If you use impregnation, we recommend doing it immediately after washing and before putting the jacket in the dryer.
